(Prada Handbag sells for $15,000)Penni has started training in a new department. She previously worked in two departments – Pre-Op and Endoscopy – and now has added a third. I have asked her for years what department she would like to work in once her schedule is more flexible. She has said that she would like to be a PICC Nurse.
So recently an opportunity came up where she was able to interview for a position on the PICC team. She had to meet with the whole team to get their approval. It meant that she had two interviews so that she could meet the whole group. At the first interview she took with her a bag that she gotten at women’s conference last year. The bag is nothing special just a bag with a zipper - well at the interview I guess some of the team members noticed Penni’s “cute” bag and assumed that cuteness equaled $$s. At the next interview Penni’s didn’t bring the bag for support. The Manager asked Penni – do you shop at Savers? Penni thought that was a strange question but said “Yes” with a little hesitation. Then came the follow-up question – when you were there last what did you buy – a clear test to see if Penni truly shopped at Savers – Penni responded with “a bread maker for $15”. The Manager exhaled with a sigh of relief and continued with to say that she was hoping to see the bag that Penni had during the last interview because the other ladies have been talking about it. I guess that everyone thought Penni must be a big spender because of the cute bag that she was caring. Penni, again with the puzzled look, what handbag do I have looked expensive? Then as they described the bag, Penni began to laugh and told them that she got the bag at a conference and paid $5 for it.
Penni and I had a good laugh – anyone that knows Penni – knows that she doesn’t like expensive things. Just ask Nichole for confirmation – she hates it when her mom takes her to Ross and Savers. After 16 years of marriage we still disagree on the fact that name brand items taste better/made better than generic.
